In MEMORIES AND THEIR DISPLACEMENTS, visitors encounter images woven into hemp paper alongside small-scale models of houses made from hempcrete. In this way, the material itself becomes part of the narrative, connecting the exhibition to the broader exploration at the heart of BEYOND CONCRETE – NATURE AS A BUILDING MATTER.

Here, industrial hemp takes on yet another dimension. Elsewhere in the project, hemp appears as a growing crop, a building material and an architectural element. In Schartau’s work, it instead becomes a carrier of images, memories and stories.

The exhibition thus reveals another facet of this year’s project, demonstrating how the same material can take on different meanings depending on who works with it and the questions being explored.
