Petra Gipp has with Refugium created a place for contemplation and retreat, a space to rest from the surrounding world. The work represents the essence of Kivik Art Centre’s idea: a building that is a sculpture, closely connected to the surrounding nature. The austere design contrasts effectively with the pastoral landscape, while the structure has been subtly inserted without causing any disturbance to its environment. Resting on a massive wooden core at its center, the work appears, when viewed from the front, to hover slightly above the ground. More about Petra Gipp: www.gipparkitektur.se
The work is accompanied by a film created by Runa Islam, a british artist whose practice spans the globe and who is internationally recognized for films with a global perspective.

With Refugium Petra Gipp created a space for contemplation and refuge, a place to rest from the world. The pavilion represents the core values of Kivik Art Centre – a building that is a sculpture that connects intimately with the surrounding landscape. The rigid shape contrasts effectively against the gentle nature around it, even though is has been placed there without breaking a branch. The construction weighs on the big wooden wall and seems to be floating above the ground.
